What’s going on? Hello, as most of you are probably aware, 1.8 will be bringing name changing to the table. This means that you’ll be able to change your in game name to something different. That sounds good, right? Well yes, it is, for non-server owners at least. Currently, the way all servers store their data for everyone is with their in game name. Now, 1.8 changes that completely; you have what’s called a UUID (Universally Unique Identifier) which is used to represent you, instead of your in game name. This means that the way it’s currently setup if you change your name, you will lose all of your data as it’s all stored under your previous in game name. So what do you intend on doing about it? In order for you to not lose everything should you change your name, we need to convert all of our data and databases to use UUIDs and also convert all current records to UUIDs. This isn’t the easiest of tasks and could take some time to do, especially for plugins where the developers aren’t active for. To make sure your data is safe, we will not be allowing people to join the server if they have changed their name. So in order to be able to continue playing after 1.8, you must not change your name. If you do, you will be refused entry on the network until you change your name back to what it was originally. Simply put, we do not want you to lose everything you have worked for, so this is necessary until we are completely converted to support UUIDs. With that being said, we do look forward to seeing all of the other features coming in 1.8. I hope you understand that this decision to block name changed accounts is necessary to keeping you safe from losing everything you have worked for on the network. We're going to be making a post very soon regarding a new position that will be available in the near future. Be on the lookout on the forums very soon. Thanks.
We don't ban them, they're automatically declined from joining the server until they change their name back.
It'll simply match their UUID with their usernames and if it matches multiple usernames, they get blocked.
