How many servers allow raiding of plots that are unclaimed? Probably quite a few. I would venture to say Noblecraft is one of a few that does not allow it. Is that safe to assume? Myself and another person had helped a non-English speaking player, with the help of google translate, find his way in the game yesterday. The players name was Falkievich. Apparently, since he does not speak English, broke the "it's not claimed so you can't raid it" rule. A rule he can't read. He was appropriately banned along with his brother. In my interaction with the guy he was a very nice person, had a nice plot built up. Have any of you heard of Letter of the Law vs Spirit of the Law? Here is the difference: "When one obeys the letter of the law but not the spirit, one is obeying the literal interpretation of the words (the "letter") of the law, but not necessarily the intent of those who wrote the law." The difference in the two, Letter of the law and Spirit of the Law, is divided by common sense. Given that a very high % of survival servers available do not care if you raid unclaimed plots, there should be some sort of clemency for Falkievich since he cannot even speak English. Another Letter of the Law vs Spirit of the Law example I want to make is when persons use all Caps. Yes you can go by the Letter of the Law and mute someone that uses Caps. At some point you have to insert common sense and evaluate whether or not it was intentional. Say for instance, I type in pEANUT bUTTER jELLY tIME, the other day. I was immediately muted for 24 hours. I had just finished making signs for me shop and had caps lock on while making them. This is a perfect example of using common sense to establish whether or not a punishment is necessary for the infraction. Please, try to use good judgement when dishing out punishments. Just because a rule is written does not mean you have to go word for word and banish someone, a potential customer for the owner, for life because you simply have the ability to do so.
I totally agree with a lot of things in this thread, and this is something I believe the staff team needs to work on, using sense to decide when to punish. For example, someone says "OMG NOBLEPRODUCTIONS I LOVE YOU SO MUCH THIS SERVER IS GREAT" in chat, I don't believe that is a punishable offense. I think that instead of muted or warned, the staff member could simply verbally warn them to be careful. Here's a basic list of things that I believe staff shouldn't punish players for doing. Positive excitement expressed through caps Obvious caps lock mistakes such as hI MY NAME IS gEORGE Trying to get a staff members attention through caps And many others However, we staff members should still mention that these things are against rules, and to be careful in the future. Thank you for writing this out Shnikins, I think working on this could very much positively impact the players and their views of staff members.
^ Just to clear this part up, you were unmuted right after the mute was given. The staff member made a mistake, sorry about that. However, other that I completely agree with what you are saying. I would explain why I agree, but I believe AgathaTheCreeper already did it for me ! Thanks for sharing this lesson in common sense! <3
This has been a topic I have wanted to bring up for a while. Thank you for being it up Shnikins. <3 I love you my wise Banana. Hopefully something will come from this.
