Ok so before we start, I KNOW for a FACTY FACT FACT that I do not stand alone on this opinion. Here goes. So I decide to log onto NobleCraft tonight after dinner. I hop onto Skyblock because I wanted to work on our island level. And boom. A pair of troublemakers in chat, asking questions... that wouldn't be suited for younger audiences. They claimed that rules are meant to be broken and the world is in disorder, or something dumb and ridiculous like that. So I'm like... Hell no, I'm not dealing with those idiots. I jump onto survival, and yup! Somebody auctions a sexually referencing item, and a player bids. Notice a pattern here? No? Ok, I'll point it out. The community in total might be affected in the future by players who come on the server with complete nonsensical actions, behaviours, and thoughts. It's beyond me why few players believe "rules are meant to be broken" and think It's a good idea to ruin innocent minds. Are you one of those players? I'm gonna be upfront about my opinion. Shame on you. Even if you're a long-time player on the network, in fact, that makes it even worse! If you disagree with something, say, Ace being admin (I thought of something random), then don't start up a war about it. There is no reason for it, however, it comes up every once in a while, and I'm sure it doesn't bring anyone's mood up. So again, if you're one of these players, please stop. It ruins the community's behaviour and there is nothing good that can come from it. Here's something else I'd like to throw in as a bonus. Recently, Ive been playing on a specific factions server. I joined my friends faction, and they were a whole gang of dupers. Did I mind? Heck no. But oh boy, did it have a ripple effect on their community. Lots of flaming, server hate, punishments, untrue statements, and even unnecessary drama. Do I want that to happen to NC?! Of course not! I've loved the server since the day my friend introduced it to me. But the after effect of this example is what it seems like it's slowly coming down to.
How does that inspire the title "Rip the community"? Staff have always been upfront about dealing with troublemakers and upholding the integrity of the rules. If anything, the fact that you thought of making this post is counter to the point that your title makes... Really, though. As I stated in announcement on the home page, we are looking for more staff. It's quite hard to find people who: Work for free, out of the goodness of their hearts Work around the clock, 24/7 in every time zone Are genuine enough to be a staff member Have the desire to help as much as each of the current staff members Are as active as we require them to be Actively maintain a positive relationship with the rest of community Have the skills necessary to be a staff member It's not easy. It never was easy, servers of a higher grade than ours go as far as to pay staff. What that results in is a staff team that ticks most of the boxes except for one thing. They're not here because they are a part of the community and they want to help protect it, they're here because of the money. Never mind the fact that NC does not generate enough revenue to pay for staff. I myself am a professional software engineer. I tutor for ranging between 40-50 dollars / hour. That price keeps going up. I teach Lew, Incomp, and the rest of the developers here entirely for free, whenever they want, about whatever topic they want. I have never once asked for a dime, and I never will. Why? Because that's not why I am here. If I wanted money I'd go and make it. I am a staff member because I want to help NC. More than that, because I love NC. I want each and everyone who has the courage to apply and the ability to represent us to have the ability to say the exact same thing. Posts like these make no difference, and normally I would just lock them, however I will leave it open so that you may respond so that I know that you are convinced. If anyone here genuinely wants to tackle this problem head on, go apply here: https://www.noble-craft.net/community/staff-application
_BlameLew_ So you reported or filled out a report sheet right? I mean, this should have at least been your first move if you were into seeing a better community. I agree with Ace that your topic title doesn't fit your context but I also do think there's better ways to have expressed this than suggest an epidemic.
In regards to your "rant" about troublemakers, i'm here to genuinely give an honest opinion on this. We have good staff who are trained to the highest point they can be. As to what Ace said, yes, we are looking for staff but sometimes it's very difficult to find someone even capable of watching over chat and that's probably the easiest job to do as a staff member in general. I'm basically repeating what Ace has mentioned but players apply because they want to work for the server and make the community happy but sometimes things get tough and it's hard to judge on what goes on behind that tiny computer screen. As to what staff have to deal with on a daily basis is most likely: Screen spam Multiple players asking for help at once Something going on outside of NC A bigger problem on another server on NC Those are examples are just a tiny part of what it takes to become a staff member. There's stress, dedication, and major work that contributes to being staff. In most cases, players respect that other people need your help and you can't always be there for them at that exact moment but there's always those players that put themselves first out of everyone even if it's a small problem that they can deal with by themselves. Please be aware that next time when you come across a problem like this, do NOT take it to a public thread, take it to a report form that is located here: https://www.noble-craft.net/community/support/ If you would like to see what it takes to be staff, please fill out this form: https://www.noble-craft.net/community/staff-application For future reference, please make the title of your next thread relevant to the actual topic. Love, Original <3
Of course. I don't know spot-on how it is to be a staff member on a larger network, but I can only imagine. The fact that the staff team works so well with our community without pay or anything like that really impresses me, and I understand that it's not always easy to take on multiple cases at once, it's most likely far from that. But I'd love to try it out. I'm going to be honest, sometimes I get fed up with a fraction of the playerbase. Is that normal? I assume so. As far as I can see, there's no possible way to like every single character trait and mixes of personalities. But the staff team does a good job of dealing with everything possible. I'm also the player who understands and takes into consideration- staff have lives outside of minecraft, whether us players like it or not. Stuff like resignations, demotions, etc. may have been a result of focusing on the real world. And I can see where people come from when they're frustrated with real life choices and whatnot. Like Original brought up, maybe something is happening on another server where you happen to be staff on, or just very active. It's a desicion you have to make, and you need to consider the after effects of both choices. Also, the point of my title was to kind of imply that few players who purposely cause issues and disagreements may have an impact on how the community expands and grows. Sorry for any miscommunication.
